Good Quality for the Money November 18, 2008 This arrived securely double-boxed with excellent packing - even the hardware is vacuum packed into "sections" - so it's easy to tell what you have. While I wouldn't consider this piece of equipment "commercial gym ready" it's more than adequate for a home gym. The metal is 16GA for most parts with some 10GA brace plates thrown in here and there. The Power Tower is *silver powder-coated* - as opposed to white which it kind of looks like in the photos. Overall, it's well constructed and sturdy even for my 235lb frame. The designers did a good job of minimizing the bolt threads protruding (which can catch clothing and skin), and there aren't any sharp corners or potential hazards other that what would be found with this kind of equipment. There is plenty of room to get bolts through holes, and the bolts are sized well. When you assemble this - as with all frames that are bolted together - don't tighten up your bolts until you've got the sections assembled. Most of the time, if a bolt won't align or go through a hole, a little jiggling here and there will solve the problem - so by leaving things semi-loose you can avoid stripping bolts or using a hammer....
The lower cross-brace IS in a bad place, but the push-up handles are still useable. Also, as noted by others, the foam is kind of cheap, as is the vinyl on the pads and the footrests - but because this won't have to put up with the constant pounding that a "commercial" piece would, I think it's going to hold up just fine.
Strength Trainer 3-Station Power Tower August 30, 2008 I wanted a good chin up, pullup and dip station and this fit the bill nicely. It is sturdy and comfortable to use. Well worth the money!
Strength Trainer - Pull up bar August 28, 2008 This is the perfect gear for pull up bar, dips, and extended push ups. Easy to bolt together. Would be nice if the manufacturer had a workout routine to go with this excellent product.
great value, good workout. August 18, 2008 this is a great unit for the price. i have had it now for just over a month and i am very satisfied. it was easy to put together and it is more than sturdy enough for anyone under 225lbs. the only down side is the location of the push-up bars. so, unless you are heavier than 225lbs or want to use this unit for push-ups, it is a great buy.
Great value. August 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The trainer was shipped quickly and came complete. I was surprised how small the box was for being 88 lbs. It was easy to put together--probably took between 30 minutes and an hour. Instructions were fairly simple to follow.
After reading reviews I decided to leave out the center bar so that I could use the push-up handles. I also put the pull-up bars on the same side as the dip handles so I can put the trainer against the wall to save space. I do the push-ups from the dip side lying between the vertical supports. This configuration makes it ideal to superset from pull-ups to dips to push-ups.
I'm 6'3" at 190 lbs and even without the center bar the trainer is sturdy. With proper form the dip bars and back support shouldn't be a problem while doing pull-ups. I was hesitant about buying this for a few weeks while I shopped exercise equipment stores for sturdier, but much more expensive models. In the end I'm more than satisfied with this model.
My only concern is the padding on the pull-up bar. As another reviewer mentioned, it appears the padding may tear after regular use. Should that occur it won't be too great a problem. Replacing worn padding with new foam padding or grip tape should be easy and inexpensive.
I recommend this model for a work out that is quick and effective. In the event that it is not used regularly it is easily convertible to a clothes hanger (pull-up bar) and shelving unit (board fastened across dip bar). You can't lose with this one.
