About Exercise Bikes Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

a nightmare October 17, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Buying this bike has been a nightmare. It was broken when I put it together, as the resistance does not increase. It has no resistance all at, so is pracically useless. I called customer service immeadiately, and they instructed me not to return it to Amazon, as they would send a technician to fix it. I've been waiting for a month for a technician to call, and have called the Nautalis customer service at least 10 times. Everytime they tell me some error has been made and a technician will be calling me within 24 hours. It has now been over 30 days so I cannot return the bike to Amazon. I now call the company almost everyday. I do not recommend this bike what-so-ever.
Excellent bike for the money but some things could be improved August 29, 2006 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
The box it came it completely fell apart when the DHL guy brought it in. Don't expect a super nice carton. My bike recieved on 8/28/2006 was manufactured in 2004 so this model must be stockpiled somewhere. Maybe that's why the packaging was so rough?
Anyway, the bike is really nice for the money. It has some very nice programs that can get you going in the right direction aerobically. In the Schwinn line I chose the 103 for the budget price. Some things I'd like to change on the design are:
1 the position of the heart rate monitor handles. I'd like them down on the horizontal portion of the handlesbars instead of in the somewhat akward verticle position
2: the seat is not the best in the world.
The Lifecycle is the cream of the crop but for in home use the Schwinn is exactly what you need. It has the programs to keep you interested (like the Lifecycle) and it has an ultra smooth pedal (like the Lifecycle) and it has the all important heart rate monitor programs (like the Lifecycle) but doesn't break the bank (like the Lifecycle).
Exercise you can do! August 1, 2006 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I am pleased with this machine. The instructions were well-written, for efficient assembly, along with a straightforward operating manual. Do-able, right out of the box, with plenty of programs to grow into. Or you can create your own. The bike also has a book rack, for those of us who CANNOT exercise without some mental stimulation, so don't buy one, you'll just have to return it, as I did. This bike is sturdy, comfortable and quiet. Go for it.
